Here's how notarizing a power of attorney works.
- The actYour document usually specifies an acknowledgment or a jurat — and if it doesn't, the choice is the signer's. Your notary explains what each act means, but can't choose for you.
- BringA current government-issued photo ID for the signer — driver's license, state ID, or passport. If you don't have acceptable ID, California also allows a notary to identify you through credible witnesses.Civ. Code §1185(b)
