Per person on a written instrument, and $2 more for swearing each witness. One person signing three documents is three fees. It's the lowest notarial fee of the six states we publish.

$25 inclusive
An electronic notarial act is $25, and that figure is inclusive of every cost the notary incurs. It replaces the computation rather than stacking on it — and it's priced per act.

The fee statute sets three fees and mentions travel nowhere. That's silence, not permission — so agree any trip charge with the notary before the appointment.

What New York records
New York notaries record each act as it happens and keep it ten years.
The entry covers the date, time and type of act, who it was for, and how they were identified. New York requires no thumbprint, and — unlike Texas — the entries are not public.

Is it per signature or per person?
Per person, per written instrument. Three people acknowledging one document is $6; one person acknowledging three documents is also $6. Swearing a witness is another $2 each.

How does the electronic fee work?
It's $25 for each electronic notarial act, and it's inclusive of all costs the notary incurs — so it's the whole price of that act, not an addition to the $2. The figure lives in regulation rather than the statute, so a rule change can move it.

Can a New York notary charge me for travel?
The statute doesn't address it — it prices oaths, acknowledgments and electronic acts and stops there. Silence isn't permission, so agree any trip charge in advance. Note the electronic fee runs the other way: there, $25 covers all the notary's costs.

I think I was overcharged. What do I do?
Raise it with the notary first. The Secretary of State may suspend or remove a New York notary for misconduct, but only after the notary is served with charges and given a chance to be heard — it's a process about the commission, not a way to recover money.
